Luton Meadow Movement_Silvertoad

Print Mule Loves Luton’s Meadow Movement

Well done Luton Borough Council for joining in and taking on board the long-running campaign by Plantlife, known as the ‘Meadow Movement.’ The organisation have been advising local authorities since 2013 about letting roadside verges grow rather than neatly mowing the grass.

Plantlife said a “cut less, cut later” approach by councils and highways authorities could significantly improve the health of the UK’s verges, which they say will help save money and boost credentials.

It said: “We want flowers to be allowed to flower so pollinators can work their magic and seeds can ripen and fall to the ground. In this way, the floral display will become better and better every year.”

We first spotted the lovely verges as they started to bloom along the A505, Stopsley Way & Hitchin Road and love seeing the beautiful flowers on our way in and out of work! What a lovely sight and a great idea! We hope to see a lot more of this in years to come.

Looking back, we did see this on roundabouts last year and perhaps even the year before, but this year, the verges came to life out of nowhere and are really lovely to see!

print media

The Benefits Of Print Media In The Digital Age

The creation of the Internet has revolutionised the way we think about advertising and the spread of information. Anything you might need to know is now available on google with a click of a button. Long gone are the days of countless hours of research at the library or browsing through a book or magazine to find the perfect car or holiday. Or the local expert in whatever it was you needed to learn or understand. It would seem that digital media has become so versatile that there’s hardly any more use for print…right?

Wrong!

Digital media does have its advantages and we’re not trying to discredit it by any means, but we do think that print media does have the upper hand. When the internet happened they said television would die, when the television arrived they said it would be the end of radio, when radio happened, it was apparently the end of newspapers… Well as we know, all of these mediums have simply added fuel to the fire and boosted each other!

  1. Online ads have more competition. Most websites average four ads per page view, putting ads per view at a four to one ratio. The ratio for print is much smaller: A magazine, for instance, may have 30 ads in 50 pages, putting ads per view at a .6 to one ratio.
  2. Studies show that 80% of people have never clicked on a banner ad.That’s right. Only 20% of the population will even click your ad when they see it online. Think about it: how many times have you picked up a brochure or browsed through a magazine while waiting in line somewhere? Probably a lot more times than you’ve clicked an online ad.
  3. Credibility– There is something about print that gives a sense of legitimacy. The saturation of popups and banner ads on the web can be overwhelming and the fear of spam, viruses and dodgy businesses is enough make people weary of clicking. There is no imminent danger in a print ad.
  4. Target Marketing– Placing ads in publications such as speciality magazines can effectively reach niche audiences that may be more difficult to target online.
  5. Tangibility– A print piece is a physical thing. Magazines and newspapers can stay in houses or offices for months or years, while Internet ads can disappear into cyber space instantaneously.

The Internet is an amazing tool. In this day and age it’s a necessity when it comes to advertising and marketing for your company, but it isn’t the only one. Print media still has its benefits and should never be dismissed as it provides a personal touch that can never be replaced by technology, as the old say goes ‘people buy from people’.

And remember marketing and advertising is at its most effective, when it’s integrated and uses different mediums to support the bigger campaign! So it’s not so much what works, but more that it all works, just more or less so depending on what you’re trying to do!

design trends

Design Trends For 2019

So 2018 has come to an end! But it’s already got us wondering about what graphic design trends for 2019 will be. Observing what’s going on out there in the world of graphic design, we can say with confidence that 2018 has been a strong year marked with lots of graphic, web and print design advancements. Based on current trends we have come up with what we believe to be the future trends in the design space. As with everything, things have moved on and into the world of animation to help enhance design.

Here’s the top 5 trends for 2019 to help you gauge what you can use to help promote your business, products and services.

#1: 3D design and typography – Three dimensional design seems to be trending right now and 3D typography especially feels just about ready to pop. The best part about 3D is the fact that there’s no particular type that works best: bold, skinny, sans-serif, script, any font can be rendered in 3D.

#2: Anti-gravity: Flying & floating elements – We may not have lived to see flying cars yet, but the era of flying elements in graphic design has definitely arrived! Flying and floating graphic elements are one of the top predictions and patterns for 2019, especially with social media.

#3 Simplicity: Navigating across the world of social media has become a tedious task, as complex graphics cause clutter and strain on your eyes.  An over complex design can also cause massive confusion so the key is to keep it simple!

#4: Cosmic effects: One of the biggest upcoming trends is cosmic effects which include the use of shades of blue, violet and black in the design to give a feel of ‘cosmos or galaxy.’ This is extremely evident in the world of sci-fi & movies which generally rolls out to the wider market.

#5: Originality:  If you thought that hand-drawn designs are becoming extinct in the digital space, then you’d be very wrong! In fact, illustrations are becoming extremely popular due to the latest innovative tools such as digital drawing tablets, stylus pens and even the apple pencil!

There’s a wealth of resources, data and examples out there which you can use to inspire you for your own use and of course, we’re always here and happy to help you with whatever project you have in mind!

time management

Struggle with time management? Give these 5 tips a try

Time management is one of those things that most of us seem to struggle with. There’s lots of suggestions and ideas on how to improve things so we’ve narrowed it down to 5 useful tips that will help you to spend your time more effectively!

  1. Take regular breaks.Breaks will keep your mind fresh and you will be able to return to your work with better focus. If you work straight through, you will put in more hours but work less productively.
  1. Keep a time log. It’s useful to track your daily activities and how much time each takes. This will give you a realistic view of how you spend your time.
  1. Block out social media.Social networks like Facebook can drain a lot of your time. Of course this tip won’t apply if you use social media as a tool to generate business! But separate out work from personal!
  1. Put up a “Do not disturb” sign and your email out of office.Or you can simply tell people that you’re busy. This will allow you to get work done when you genuinely can’t spare a second.
  1. Set clear goals. It’s important that you know what your short-term and long-term goals are – this will enable you to differentiate between what’s important and what’s not and work towards achieving the targets you’ve set out.

business card

What Does Your Business Card Say About You?

In a meeting with a new client or potential business partner, what is the one thing you are most likely to exchange? You only have one chance to make a first impression, an impression that can gain you more business. A lot of people overlook the value of having their card accurately reflecting their brand image, yet that little piece of card is held by your client as they evaluate your worth. Take a look below at our guide on when, where and how different types of business cards can improve your brand.

What information should I include in my business card?

Here at Printmule we believe that there are a range of key elements to a business card; the basics which are individual’s name, title, email address, phone number, and the company name, along with your logo and web address.

While physical addresses were once mandatory additions, they are becoming increasingly less relevant to many. The reason being is the fact that a physical address takes up a lot of space. You could just put your web address on the cars as this means that people can search you up online and find out any further details for themselves.

What type of paper should I use?

By choosing a particular type of paper you are making a statement about your brand. Review your brand values and make sure that the business card reflects that in both written content and paper type.

Last but not least…make sure you use them once done and give them out! We often find that a newly ordered deck of cards finds its way into a side drawer and sits there doing not a lot! The more you give out, the more chances that you’ll be contacted!

tips for maintaining your printer

4 Top Tips For Maintaining Your Printer

Just like any other piece of equipment, your printer needs love and attention to stay properly maintained. We have outlined four top tips for your organisation to follow in order to make your printing device last as long as possible:

  1. Be Safe
  • Whenever you are required to open the printer for maintenance, make sure you turn off the power and keep your hands clear of moving parts and fusers inside the printer. This will not only prevent damage to the printer but also to you.
  1. Clean Printer Heads
  • Had a document come out of a printer with a line running across the paper or images that are missing areas of ink? This means that the printer heads are clogged and need to be cleaned. A lot of modern printers actually self-clean, however it’s useful to check the manual to learn how it all works.
  1. Remove Dust and Debris
  • All printers have a massive build-up of dust, toner and other debris which can cause jams and also streaks of ink that appear on the print outs. The best way to fix this issue is to vacuum out the small particles. Be sure to read any specific instructions in the manual as there are some parts of the printer you shouldn’t mess with.
  1. Carefully resolve mechanical errors
  • Even if you incorrectly resolve a paper jam it can lead to further printing issues in the future. Instead of getting angry when a jam occurs, take a deep breath and avoid pulling the paper out! First refer to the manual or instructions that come with the printer, which will have instructions on the best way to fix the problem.
  1. Invest in a maintenance kit
  • If you’re willing to spend a little bit of cash to extend the life of your printer then a maintenance kit is a good way to go. These can be ordered from your printer’s manufacturer, the kits include a range of maintenance products from cleaning to changeable printer parts.

Why-Print-Media-Is-Important

Why Is Print Media Important?

When it comes to promoting products and services, businesses can peruse a number of different avenues for a successful outcome. Some of the most common mediums include; television, radio and of course, the internet! However, you can also make use of traditional print advertising, which has a great range of advantages over other forms of media and can also be substantially cheaper!

Unlimited exposure

Print advertising examples such as postcards, flyers, banners, magazines and newspapers allow for unlimited exposure. Print media is undeniably more versatile, unlike other forms of advertising like radio and television where advertising time is scheduled and high-cost for short bursts of exposure to a large audience. Though not all that view are relevant people that you want to expose your products or services to. A great example of this would be magazines, these tend to be left on coffee tables and they can be viewed repeatedly. Not only that, they are a much cheaper option to advertise your brand.

Non-Intrusive

Another great benefit of print and promotional items is that they are less intrusive than other types of media. Television and radio adverts can be quite annoying as they often interrupt what you are listening to or watching. With print media you can have more control over when you would like people to see the ads without annoying anyone!

Target Marketing

Certain types of print media, particularly magazines, tend to be specialised and ads or inserts can be developed to appeal to a specific type of reader. A good example of this would be a manufacturer of sports clothes placing or offer leaflets/flyers in athletic or fitness magazines.

The choices are many and they all work to varying degrees, what it comes down to is what is the most relevant form of advertising and print media to use for your target market.

business cards

Which Business Card Is Right For You?

Printmule can professionally print on a wide variety of Business Cards! Whether you’re after something simple or extravagant. Whatever you choose, you’re sure to have something that will elegantly show what you and your business is all about. Although they may be small, your business cards are likely to say everything about you and your brand. Our high-quality cards come in full colour and are sure to create a great first impression. Our business card printing service brings an incredibly fast turnaround to get your print products to you when you need it. All cards are printed double-sided and our standard size is 85mm x 55mm.  Take a look below at a range of our different card types!

Gloss Business Card Type

Gloss finish is fully coated paper. The coating covers the fibres, creating a smoother surface and resulting in strong print definition and a smoother image. In other words, a stronger appearance and printability. Gloss finish in print is extremely smooth and has excellent ink holdout.

Spot UV Business Cards

Spot UV printing is where certain elements of the business card artwork have been selected to have a shiny/reflective effect. This is a lovely way to be more creative with your cards and design in general. General varnish is applied to plain white cardstock, but is also often applied to coat colour-printed paper products, sealing in their colour, adding shine, and protecting the printed surface underneath from moisture and other types of damage.

Silk Material

Silk coated paper is created by the use of a combination of coating formula and calendaring techniques to produce a smooth, low gloss paper. Silk coated paper is smooth, with a uniform printed ink gloss and a distinctive, silky feel. Silk paper is ideal for projects where a little extra material strength is necessary.

Matt Laminated Material

This is the standard high quality material we use for our business cards printed in full colour. We apply matt laminate to both sides resulting in a very smooth and professional finish for your business cards. Matt laminated print doesn’t get scratched and will last for quite some time.
